Photoshoots

David or Vinnie as he known within his circle of friends is a car enthusiast. When I was over at his house to meet him , his dad rolled in in a classic MA70 Supra. Sometimes the motorhead grease flows in the blood, not for me though, whose father believes a car is made to go from point A to B with bare minimal power.

Owning a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV prior to the S15, he never had the intention of owning one as he was always keen on a DC5 Integra; swapping his Evo IV for a near stock S15 with a few Stage One modifications. David modifies the car himself to learn more about them as well as to expand his skills which can be very useful given the high cost of labour in Australia.

The law in Australia is actually pretty tight and the Police will issue you a “Yellow Sticker” which basically mean that your car is defective and you would have to correct that problem and send it for an inspection to remove the sticker. A defect, however, covers a wide scope of issues including “too lowered” to a blown bulb if you got yourself an officer who have had a bad day. Thankfully, you’re still able to drop a V8 into a Corolla or Force Induce a Civic and get away with it (with proper engineering) unlike Singapore.

David prefers a low profile look hence he has decided not to have any ‘loud’ wings or bodykits. He uses

–          JDM Spec R Side Skirts

–          JDM Spec R Front and Rear Bumper

–          GKTech Front Lip

–          GKTech Ganador Mirrors

–          GReddy Air Diversion Plate

–          DMAX LED Tail Lights

–          DMAX Boot Spoiler

The handling of the S15 is David’s priority and no expense is spared. Peeking into his garage, I found his daily driver , a Toyota Yaris that fits David’s philosophy in car modification to a T. The S15 is fitted with.

–          Cusco Rear Camber Arms

–          Cusco Rear Toe Arms

–          Cusco Rear Strut Brace OS Style

–          DGR Coilovers

–          GReddy Front Strut Bar

–          Kazama Tie Rod Bar

–          NISMO Lower Control Arm

–          ORT Front Castor Arm

–          Powered by Max Tie Rods

–          Whiteline Front and Rear Sway Bars.

With all that grip to the tarmac, some improvement to the power is in order. To keep it low, David has recently installed a Xforce Varex muffler to control the noise level of the exhaust. With an adjustable butterfly valved controlled remotely from the cockpit, he is able to make it sound like a stock S15 or a Camry, to a growling beast bursting up to you.

Even I found the car really tame especially with his sedentary driving style (probably a Takumi in disguise) till he mentioned the list of parts. Unlike others who like to have a showy blingy engine bay, his looks perfectly stock on the surface to avoid the attention of the police if he ever has to pop the hood for their prying eyes. The cockpit is a pleasant area to look at and it isn’t cluttered with boost gauges, water gauges and the likes.

To end it of, the S15 sits snugly on 4 sides with a pair of SSR Professors 17×10 + 24 at the rear and Enkei Racing S 17×8 +28 sitting in the front fastened down with BLOX Wheel nuts. Calipers are stock with HEL Braided Brake Lines.
