It was at a local motor show over a decade ago that I had my foremost encounter
with the Japanese car-tuning scene. The Kodak disposable cameras in their
trademark yellow casing were all the rage back than. I still recall vividly the flashes
from these devices going off brilliantly through out the venue, as their owners
endeavored to capture the JDM models and rides on film. To date, it is still one of
the finest motor shows ever held in Singapore in my books.
Fast-forward to 2013 and we have Singapore’s principle media company MediaCorp, in cooperation with Muse Group, bringing Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore 2013 to the shores of our tiny nation-state. The inaugural Singapore show will be held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo® and Convention Centre from 12-14 April 2013.
Native Japanese race queens and automobiles tastefully crafted by discerning artisans will be specially brought in for the weekend long event. I will contentedly explore the show on all 3 days just to reminisce the times and experiences of my previous Japan expeditions. Renowned tuning houses the likes of Veilside, Top Secret, Varis, DAMD and many more, will be participating in the first ever Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore. Having seen the masterfully pieced Veilside 4509 GTR in person, I believe anyone who has the slightest bit of CarCrazy blood pumping through them will be totally stoked and in awe like I was when I first laid eyes on it.
Not forgetting our Rotary fans, for whom the sighting of a Mazda Rx7 on our roads is a rarity, RE-Amemiya will satisfy your cravings with their take on the Rx7.
A Japanese inspired motor show sans models is hardly a show at all. Undoubtedly, the good organizers have brought in prominent automobile promotional models such as sensual Ms Saki Tachibana (Race Queen of the Year 2011 – 12) and sweetheart Ms Megu Aoyoma (D1GP GoodYear race queen). 🙂
To tie together an event of such magnitude, they settled for no lesser headlining entertainment than Japan’s numero uno girl group, AKB48. Fanboys and fangirls, gear up for some adrenaline pumping moshpit action! Ticketholders who have purchased their tickets online are able to redeem exclusive and limited daily moshpit passes, at the event venue itself. This is an exceptional once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close to your idols!
Other acts in the programme include popular homegrown acts like John Molina, Randolf Arriola and many more.
