Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore : Scaled Racers

The composed calmness in their eyes do not reflect the slightly rickety hands nor the thumping heartbeats of both drivers preparing to tear up the track, sideways. A riveting highlight of the event that attracted a large crowd, both the young and the young at heart, was the 1/10 RC drift competition organized by Street Revolution, a local RC supplies store.

Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore : Banzai Attack!

Text by : Randy F, Photos by : Randy F

It has been a week since the inaugural Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore was held at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Center. The event attracted many car enthusiasts from around the region. Photos have been circulating around the internet and audiences that graced the event experienced first hand what the Japanese car tuning scene could offer. Let us now take a look at the highlights of this car show that had thousands flocking to the venue. It was 9am on the first day of the event, and the media was set and ready for a preview of the offerings, just before the gates opened to the public at 10am.

The first car that stood before me was one that was familiar, one that I came across during the Nayoga Exciting Car Showdown – the Re Amemiya Rx7. I believe there are enough photos around the net showcasing Amemiya san’s smooth flowing creation. A definite high of the show.

Tokyo Singapore Salon Singapore 2013

Text by : Randy F, Photos by : Randy F / Organizers

It was at a local motor show over a decade ago that I had my foremost encounter
with the Japanese car-tuning scene. The Kodak disposable cameras in their
trademark yellow casing were all the rage back than. I still recall vividly the flashes
from these devices going off brilliantly through out the venue, as their owners
endeavored to capture the JDM models and rides on film. To date, it is still one of
the finest motor shows ever held in Singapore in my books.

AW-1160x1805mm-for-upload Fast-forward to 2013 and we have Singapore’s principle media company MediaCorp, in cooperation with Muse Group, bringing Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore 2013 to the shores of our tiny nation-state. The inaugural Singapore show will be held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo® and Convention Centre from 12-14 April 2013.

Event : Pioneer – The next stage of in-car entertainment

To begin with, how many of you don’t even have car entertainment system? I guess that’s rarely a no unless it’s a pure race car where every single gram matters. Apart from the long road trip, the traffic jams nowadays is also getting worst. The amount of time we spent in our car has unknowingly increased too.

Pioneer invited us over and presented us with the latest in-car entertainment that brings drivers direct access to more than two dozen smartphone applications. Since the launch of the new iPhone5(Thunderbolt cable) many of us will somewhat be affected. Not being able to fully utilize the in-car entertainment system alongside.

Isao Nomura, the Deputy GM for Pioneer Car Entertainment Singapore gave us a warm welcome and headed onto Pioneer’s vision. It’s also highlighted that in their 2013 Pioneer new audio/ video products, the element of connectivity, entertainment, quality, safety and convenience are essential to them. And also with the input of their customer feedback, they hereby present their champion multimedia receiver Pioneer’s latest AVH-X8550BT.

Look what Pioneer had in store for us.

The AVH-X8550BT is smartphone compatible with Pioneer’s AppRadio Mode that puts a world of excitement at our fingertips. AppRadio now supports smartphones not just on the iOS devices (including iPhone 5), it’s also compatible with Android platform allowing us to view and control compatible third-party smartphone applications directly on the 7” WVGA touch screen. We are also able to enjoy direct access to our smartphone’s library of music, videos and pictures etc. This is one of the features that capture our attention for this it’s now so much more convenience and allowing us to optimize apps like navigational tools, internet surfing, radio streaming and not leaving social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

We are now also able to use navigation not just from our smartphone.

Alittle brief by the representatives from Pioneer on how it works

Another key feature presented was MIXTRAX, Pioneer’s proprietary virtual DJ technology. A little intro to the MIXTRAX just in case you haven’t heard of it. The MIXTRAX intelligently groups songs of similar beat and characteristics within a media library and produces a unique nonstop listening experience by seamlessly transitioning between songs with DJ-inspired effects such as cross-fading, high-pass filter and phaser. Advanced users can further customize their experience by selecting  the types of transitions between songs, as well as the duration each song is played before transitioning to the next one.

Trying out the features on Pioneer’s latest AVH-X8550BT

Apart from the demo set, Pioneer even brought down a demo car for us to have a first-hand experience on how it actually is while in the car. We tried several applications such as the navigation. It actually fades the music away and tell you the direction so that you’ll never miss the turn.

Event : Club ITR meet

Text & Photos by : Ben Wong

I first encountered ClubITR (Integra Type R) at World Time Attack 2012 in Sydney last year. I took the chance to do a feature of one Club ITR DC5 while I was there. This time however brought me to the Melbourne branch of the end of month meet of Club ITR. There were a handful of Integra Type Rs on hand, but it was overwhelmed by pretty much everything Honda, not just limiting themselves to that one model.

Nagoyo Exciting Car Showdown Parking Area

Text and Photos by : Randy F

Happy New Year to our readers worldwide!

Majority of the articles detailing the happenings of the electrifying Nagoya Exciting CarShowdown held in April 2012 have been posted on the TheRightWrong. Nonetheless, we are still left with the equally fascinating parking area where mini meets were happening, and I hope these spontaneously captured photos will convey that stirring sight.

Diversity is one of the contributing factors to the alluring Japanese car scene. In one
instance, you hear the burping of the rotary powered Mazda. In a split second, you may be
blared at by the resounding screams of the ITBs in the evergreen Hachirokus. The show’s
parking area is where you can witness first hand the multiplicity of what makes a Japanese
car show one of a kind.

A super clean Nissan Skyline GTR R34 wearing Nismo Z Tune parts on Volks Racing TE37SLs whizzed passed as I was crossing to the location. It put a smile on my face as I anticipated what will be coming up next!
