Definitely not a car sought after by the pony hungry motorheads, this lightweight machine with its DOHC 1.6L churns out just a miserable 115bhp (86kW) with 136Nm of Torque at 5,500rpm is a cornering machine. The size and colour of this MX5 definitely puts a smile on your face. Despite the lack of power, it’s not meant to eat V8s or Escargots for lunch but carving through mountain side roads in this little go kart with the top down is pleasurable in the midst of the mild autumn weather in Perth right now. I did want one, but the boot space wasn’t big enough. This car was modified with handling in mind and he uses it for promotional purposes of the JDM WA car community. Kelvin is also a co-founder of JDM WA, started up on Facebook in 2011. The group was started to gather the Japanese car scene together as a whole. There are car clubs such as SAUWA for the Skylines, SILWA for the Silvias and a upcoming Perth Honda Club for the Hondas. To date, there have been 6 cruises with 150 cars attending the inaugural cruise and increasing every month. JDM WA organised a Stance Meet in February and there are more events planned for the months ahead.
